Legal & trademark notice
Trademark notice, terms of use, and brand asset usage policy for the Scrift API.
What Scrift is
Scrift is a developer API that delivers brand asset data - SVG logos, brand colors, and metadata - to help developers build better products. Scrift is a delivery layer, not a rights holder. The underlying SVG artwork in our catalog is sourced from open-source collections whose contributors have released the files into the public domain or under permissive open-source licenses. The brand marks, logos, and visual identities those files represent remain the exclusive intellectual property of their respective trademark holders. The file format does not transfer or affect that ownership.
License to use the Scrift API
Scrift grants you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Scrift API and the data it returns, solely for the purpose of displaying brand assets within your own application or product for identification purposes.
This license does not include:
- Reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing brand asset files to third parties as standalone products
- Claiming ownership of any brand mark, logo, or visual identity returned by the API
- Using brand assets in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or affiliation with the trademark holder
- Modifying or distorting brand marks in ways that violate the trademark holder's brand guidelines
- Using brand assets on merchandise, physical products, or in advertising that promotes your own brand or products using another brand's identity
- Using brand assets to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any artificial intelligence or machine learning model - including image recognition, logo detection, or embedding models - without a prior written agreement with Scrift
Permitted uses include
- Displaying a brand's logo to identify that brand within your application - for example, showing a payment provider's logo next to a transaction, or showing a software tool's logo in an integration list. This is nominative use: using a trademark to refer to the company it belongs to.
Trademarks belong to their owners
Every brand name, logo, and visual mark accessible through the Scrift API is the exclusive property of its respective trademark holder. Presence of a brand in our catalog does not imply any affiliation, partnership, sponsorship, or endorsement by that brand, and does not grant any rights to use their trademark beyond what their own brand guidelines permit.
Scrift does not license trademarks. Scrift has no agreements with any of the brands in its catalog. Scrift is not a trademark licensor and cannot grant rights it does not hold.
Your responsibility as a developer
When you use the Scrift API to display a brand's logo or colors in your product, you are responsible for ensuring your use complies with that brand's own trademark guidelines. Most brands publish their guidelines publicly. For informational display, product integration indicators, and developer tools, nominative use is generally acceptable under established trademark law principles. Selling merchandise, implying endorsement, or modifying a brand's visual identity without permission are common restrictions that apply regardless of how you obtained the assets.
If you are unsure whether your use case is compliant with a specific brand's guidelines, consult that brand's official trademark documentation or seek independent legal advice. Scrift is not in a position to advise on trademark compliance for your specific use case.
API key security
Your API key is personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for keeping it confidential and for all activity that occurs under your key. If you believe your key has been compromised, regenerate it immediately from your dashboard. Scrift is not liable for unauthorized use of your API key resulting from your failure to keep it secure.
Caching and storage
You may cache brand asset data returned by the Scrift API for up to 30 days from the date of retrieval for performance purposes within your own application. Cached data must not be redistributed, resold, or used to create a derivative dataset or competing brand asset product. You remain responsible for ensuring cached data stays reasonably current - brand guidelines change, logos get updated, and colors evolve. Scrift is not liable for decisions made based on stale cached data.
Bulk export
Where Scrift provides batch or other high-volume API access to brand asset data, it is offered as a developer convenience for integration use within your own application - not as a mechanism to acquire brand asset files for redistribution, resale, or for use outside your own product. Such access requires authentication and is rate-limited. Anonymous or automated bulk acquisition of brand assets is prohibited.
Brand removal and takedown requests
Scrift respects brand owners' rights. Where a trademark holder has explicitly restricted the use or redistribution of their assets, or objects to Scrift's inclusion of their brand in the catalog, Scrift will honour removal requests promptly. If you represent a brand and believe Scrift's catalog includes your assets in a way that conflicts with your guidelines, contact us at hello@phazeo.com and we will respond within 5 business days.
Scrift is not liable for third-party use of brand assets delivered via its API. Takedown requests apply to Scrift's catalog and API; Scrift cannot control how its API consumers use data already retrieved.
No warranty
Brand asset data provided through Scrift is offered as-is, without warranty of any kind - express or implied - including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Brand guidelines change, logos get updated, and licenses evolve. Always verify critical brand data against the brand's official source before production use. Scrift makes reasonable efforts to keep data accurate but cannot guarantee it.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Scrift and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the API or brand asset data, including but not limited to lost revenue, loss of data, or business interruption, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Scrift's total liability for any claim arising under these terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to Scrift in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 USD, whichever is greater.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Scrift and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses - including reasonable legal fees - arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the Scrift API or brand asset data; (b) your violation of these terms; (c) your violation of any third party's intellectual property or trademark rights; or (d) your use of brand assets in ways that violate a trademark holder's guidelines.
Changes to this notice
Scrift may update this notice at any time. Continued use of the API after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. The date of the most recent update is shown at the bottom of this page.
